I stand in the darkness, barely seeing the toe of my shoe. Everywhere I look, I see never-ending emptiness. The only exception is a lamp in the middle. It looks new with a modern design, so it's no surprise that most people want to spend their life under its light.
I know it wasn't like that from the talk with my grandparents. Just a moment ago, there was ubiquitous light. Although it wasn't nearly as shining as the lamp, it saved most people from emptiness. But people lost faith in this light. It lit out.
Just a moment ago, there was ubiquitous light.
Carefully, I take a step towards the lamp. I notice how most people stand around the lamp but away from the light. They admire those under the light. I take a look at one person who shines. Light shows how beautiful this person is. Gorgeous body and a perfect lifestyle at first glance. But the look in the person's eyes scares me. I see the same emptiness that is everywhere around me. I run far away from the lamp into the unknown void.
I ran hard into a stranger. We both fell to the ground. We ran head-on into each other. I see she is injured. I first wipe her blood off my face. Then I look at my hand. I'm dazzled. I turn my view to her and see her glowing everywhere. Her blood glows! I feel a strange sensation. My blood starts to emit the light, too. No one around us is paying attention. Perhaps only we see the glow. Then I realize she's crying. I hug her. She calms down. Our lights merge.
My blood starts to emit the light, too.
We healed our wounds together. After wiping away the last drop of blood, nothing glowed anymore. But I don't mind, I grab her hand. Now, we no longer travel through the void alone.
At that moment, my fear of emptiness vanishes. The surrounding emptiness has not disappeared, but my view has changed.
... my fear of emptiness vanishes.
I'm afraid to look her closely in the eye from previous experience. But I manage it in the end, and instead of emptiness, I see the light I have been unknowingly searching for so long.
